Nel – Next Generation Electrolyser to Market
Nel, in close collaboration with Dynatec Engineering, has developed a next-generation pressurized alkaline electrolyzer, with Dynatec Engineering as partner for design and development of the cell stack. The cell stack is based on a clean-sheet design, developed from the ground up to deliver high efficiency, long lifetime, and scalability—without limitations from legacy technologies.

A key part of the stack development has been a modular architecture, providing flexibility in production, assembly and maintenance, as well as enabling easy adaptation to different capacity requirements. This approach supports efficient scaling, and contributes directly to competitive lifecycle costs for hydrogen producers.

To validate the design and ensure rapid time-to-market, the project has included prototype manufacturing in small and medium volumes at Dynatec SMV. This has allowed for frequent iterations, practical testing, and optimization prior to full-scale production.
Furthermore, Dynatec Engineering has played a key role in an integrated development process where cell stack design, manufacturing methods, and test production were developed in parallel. This integration has been crucial in reducing risk, ensuring quality, and enabling a smooth transition to industrial production.

Over many years, Dynatec has worked closely with Nel’s technologists and engineers. This long-standing partnership has been critical in developing a technology that not only works in theory, but is also industrially and commercially competitive. Dynatec Engineering has contributed advanced analyses such as CFD and FEM, as well as the design and execution of functional testing — all with the goal of delivering a robust and efficient solution for hydrogen production.
